Exchange sales of recycled polymers rise 7.5-fold
29 Oct 2026
In the first nine months of 2026, more than 3 thousand tonnes of recyclable polymer materials were sold on the Saint Petersburg Exchange. According to RUPEC, citing the exchange, sales increased 7.5-fold compared with the previous year.
The published results single out low-density polyethylene (LDPE) film, with sales of around 1.3 thousand tonnes. Sales of rigid HDPE exceeded 300 tonnes. These figures relate to one trading platform and cannot be used to assess the size of the entire Russian recycled polymers market.
RUPEC notes that regular trading in these materials began in 2024. They have a separate specification in the Petroleum Products section. Materials offered include polyethylene films, rigid polypropylene and polypropylene bulk bags.
Editorial takeaway: packaging manufacturers may wish to consider exchange trading when looking for buyers of waste or suppliers of secondary raw materials. Before comparing offers, it is useful to agree on the polymer type, batch contamination, acceptance conditions and delivery costs. Higher trading volumes alone do not confirm falling prices and do not mean that any purchased material can immediately be returned to packaging production.
